"Most Americans were angry about inflation (Trump escaped blame for that, even though he bears at least equal responsibility)."

They're angry about inflation, but they don't believe there is equal responsibility here. The Biden administration takes most of the blame as they should. Also, let's not forget that during that inflation they were told over and over again by the Biden administration that they were wrong and the economy was great and they just weren't smart enough to understand what was really going on...

It's tough to get an approval rating down around 40%. You have to work for it.

Biden entered office with inflation under 2% and an economy that looked pretty good.

Federal spending: 2024 (post-COVID) vs 2019 (pre-COVID) is up over 50%.

I agree David. The Dems have a common sense problem. They spend a ton of time talking about what they think people 'ought to want to hear'. They mask the real message in the kinds of distractions people know are not connected to their every day lives: DEI/pronouns/climate change is to blame for everything etc.

This just won't do. It's blah blah blah. I don't want to get into the election explanation business in this newsletter, so apologies for allowing a little of that to leak here. I wanted to respond to your question.

I am a big believer in trading the market we have rather than the market we think we ought to have. If the Dems had paid attention to this, perhaps they would have made a stronger connection and would not have dropped 13 million votes from 2020 (68 million vs. 81 million) whereas Trump dropped 1 million (73 million vs. 74 million)
